To achieve our
primary goal of researching the development of the Mennonite Relief
Sale Quilt, we propose
-
a process of analyzing and synthesizing the
accumulated data regarding the personal, social, theological, and
political history of these quilts.
-
an investigation and documentation
of this contribution through the recovery of data from sources such
as personal journals, letters, interviews, quilting group minutes,
regional MCC annual reports, Mennonite publications and local
newspapers.
-
travel through the United
States and Canada to collect information, view quilts and, when
possible, attend MCC relief sales. Through our search we also hope to
locate some of the quilts previously sold at sales, and/or photographs
of them, and to initiate contact with some of the quilters and those who
bought them.
Our communication and investigation will utilize
online technology. Our website is intended to enhance interaction and communication
about the research project. In providing a place to gather and
disseminate research sources and information, we invite collaboration
with site visitors including and beyond the Mennonite and quilting
worlds on relevant aspects of quilt history.
