I was born and raised in Saskatchewan and during my early
years lived in Saskatoon. I have also lived, in some cases briefly, in Brussels, Belgium; The Democratic Republic of the Congo;
Goshen and Elkhart, IN; near Viborg, South Dakota; Winnipeg, MB; Toronto; and now in
Wichita, KS. Traveling and living in different places has been a
significant joy in my life and greatly influenced my worldview. I attended three Mennonite institutions (Rosthern Junior College, Goshen College and Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminaries) and several universities (York, Queens and Toronto). I have a Master's degree in Peace Studies from AMBS and my doctoral degree in psychology is from the University of Toronto. I am a psychologist. I practiced psychotherapy for many years and was a program director for two social service programs whose services focused on the needs of abused women and/or women in conflict with the law (Winnipeg & Toronto). I now teach psychology at a Kansas college. I am a social science researcher. My dissertation was a qualitative study investigating feminist therapy as an agent of social change and current research interests continue to relate to the contributions, concerns, cultural influences and expressions of women. Exploring the relationship among fabric, quilts, women and culture incorporates into my research focus a longtime love and appreciation of fabric and art. |
